Q). What is a Whoodle?

A). A Whoodle is a beautiful mix of a Standard Poodle and Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier.

Q). How big is a Whoodle?
A). Whoodles come in three sizes; miniature, medium and standard ranging from 12-24 inches in height and between 20 and 70 lbs.

Our Whoodle parents are 20-45  pounds and 17-24 inches tall. This makes our Whoodles in the miniature and medium size range depending on which Poodle mom was used.

Q). Is a Whoodle a good family pet?
A). Whoodles are a very friendly breed of dog that enjoys the company of all they comes across, making them a great addition to a family. Whoodles are known for being affectionate, friendly, intelligent, loving, playful and energetic. Because they are easily trainable and because they get along great with children, families and other pets, they make a great  addition to any family. Whoodles also make good choices for those with allergies as well as families with special needs children and adults.

Q). What is the life span of a Whoodle?
A). The life span of a Whoodle is fairly long at 12-15 years. The Whoodle is a generally healthy and hardy dog.  Hybrid dogs tend to have less health issues than  purebred dogs, but may sometimes have the same health  concerns as their parent breeds. Twin Pines Poodles are DNA health tested.  Twin Pines only breeds F1 Whoodles.

This gives hybrid vigor to the cross which is lost with multiple generation crosses. Multi-generational crosses tend to produce more color to the Whoodles but Hybrid vigor is sacrificed.

Q). Do Whoodles shed? and How much should I groom my Whoodle?
A). The Whoodle does not shed. It is a low to moderate maintenance dog. They can  have a long luxurious coat. They need regular brushing, as their coats can become matted and  should be groomed every 3-4 months. They go through a coat change of texture just like a poodle. Being as they do not shed, their coat continually grows and will therefore require regular clipping.  Most Whoodles fade in color as well. Your black puppy will most likely go through some color ranges before reaching its adult color.

Q). How much exercise should my Whoodle get?
A). A moderate walk daily is optimal for your Whoodle’s physical and mental health. Whoodles are sensitive to heat and the sun and will often seek shade when outside so avoiding outside exercise when it is warm to hot is discharged. They are not very affected by the cold.

Q). I live in an apartment. Would a Whoodle be appropriate?
A). Absolutely, as long as they get daily exercise and stimulation they are happy as long as they are near their owners. Often referred to as “Velcro dogs" Whoodles are happy when they are with you.

Q). I am looking for a guard dog is a Whoodle a good choice?
A). Unfortunately not, as an extremely social and non-aggressive dog a Whoodle will be more apt to bring his ball to a stranger or lick or beg for a belly rub before he would bark  or bite.

Q). I want a dog that is easily trainable.  How hard is it to train a  Whoodle?
A). Whoodles have the ability to learn things quickly and many Whoodles go on to be therapy dogs, but they  need to be trained with a soft and gentle hand rather than  harsh tones or tactics. Positive reinforcement is necessary  when training because they can be stubborn at times. They  are tender, loyal dogs that do well with positive loving training.
